La visite épiscopale de Son Excellence Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles, SMM, PhD, évêque auxiliaire de l’archidiocèse de Port-au-Prince, à la Paroisse Ste Brigitte à Westbury le dimanche 6 Octobre 2024, jour de la résurrection du Seigneur et la veille de la fête Notre Dame du Rosaire, pour présider la Messe en anglais de 11:45am, a été un moment de grande joie et de grâce pour la communauté haïtienne catholique de Long Island et les autres communautés de foi de cette paroisse. Plusieurs membres de différentes communautés Haïtiennes de foi catholique du diocèse de Rockville Centre étaient présents à cette messe d’action de grâce pour remercier le Seigneur avec Son Excellence Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM pour tous ses Bienfaits dans la vie de ce grand bâtisseur de foi et pour la communauté Haïtienne catholique du diocèse de Rockville Centre. Pour les anciens paroissiens du Père Wismick SMM à la paroisse Ste Brigitte, ainsi que pour les autres communautés haïtiennes de foi catholique du diocèse de Rockville Centre, cette première Messe de l’évêque Jean Charles SMM à la Paroisse Ste Brigitte du diocèse de Rockville Centre a été un moment historique et rempli d’émotion.
Cette Messe d’action de grâce de Son Excellence Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM était un moment pour lui de remercier le Seigneur comme le premier prêtre haïtien des Missionnaires Montfortains qui a exercé son ministère à la paroisse Ste Brigitte de Westbury, 2 ans après son ordination sacerdotale et pour exprimer sa profonde reconnaissance aux anciens curés, au curé actuel, le Père John Sureau, et aux communautés de foi de la paroisse Ste Brigitte à Westbury. Albert Schweitzer (Artiste, Médecin, Musicien, Philosophe, Scientifique, Théologien (1875 – 1965) a écrit : « La gratitude est le secret de la vie. L’essentiel est de remercier pour tout. Celui qui a appris cela sait ce que vivre signifie. Il a pénétré le profond mystère de la vie ».
En revanche, nous ne pouvons pas ignorer certaines personnes ou des gens qui ont la mémoire courte et qui prouvent, à travers leurs actions que la reconnaissance vieillit bien vite. Mais Monseigneur Wismick SMM a bien appris cette phrase de William Shakespeare (Artiste, Écrivain et Poète anglais (1564-1616) : « La reconnaissance est un noble et digne salaire pour les âmes généreuses ».
Vous pouvez imaginer, en ce temps-là, comme jeune prêtre, la lourde responsabilité et le grand défi du Père Wismick Jean Charles SMM , comme le premier prêtre Haïtien des Missionnaires Montfortains, d’exercer son ministère à la paroisse Ste Brigitte pendant qu’il faisait, en même temps, ses études une maitrise en Psychologie à la prestigieuse Université Jésuite FordHam dans l’État de New York. Comme tout étudiant étranger, il a connu des difficultés, mais, avec la grâce du Seigneur, sa solide formation académique, sa grande discipline et sa grande passion pour l’éducation, il arriva à s’adapter bien vite à l’université et à son ministère à la paroisse Ste Brigitte. Son ministère a beaucoup fleuri à cette paroisse. L’église paroissiale de sainte Brigitte était toujours remplie pour sa célébration eucharistique en créole pour la communauté haïtienne. Il est connu comme un prédicateur-né. Tout le monde était toujours très content d’entendre ses homélies. Dans un premier temps il a passé 3 années dans cette paroisse et tout de suite après l’obtention de sa Maitrise à l’Université FordHam, le Supérieur Provincial des Pères Montfortains l’a appelé pour une nouvelle mission en Haïti. Il est retourné en 2006 dans le diocèse de Rockville Centre à la paroisse Ste Anne à Brentwood pour un 2ème ministère comme prêtre aux États-Unis ou au diocèse de Rockville Centre . Son ministère à la paroisse Ste Anne à Brentwood coïncidait avec le 25e anniversaire de la communauté Haïtienne à cette paroisse et dans le diocèse de Rockville Centre. Plusieurs membres des autres communautés de foi Catholique de la communauté haïtienne du diocèse de Rockville Centre allaient presque chaque dimanche à la paroisse Sainte Anne pour participer à sa Messe en créole et pour écouter l’homélie du Prêtre-éducateur Wismick Jean Charles SMM
Après 3 ans à la paroisse Ste Anne, en 2009, il est retourné à sa première paroisse Ste Brigitte tandis qu’il complétait son doctorat en Psychologie à l’Université FordHam. son doctorat en Psychologie à l’Université FordHam. Au cours de ces 2 ministères à la paroisse Ste Brigitte et dans les autres paroisses du diocèse de Rockville Centre où la communauté haïtienne catholique de Long Island a une messe dans sa langue et sa culture, le Père Wismick Jean Charles SMM était toujours très aimé et très respecté pour sa spiritualité, sa discipline, son don de relations humaines, ses prédications, son grand amour pour l’église et sa grande proximité avec le peuple de Dieu de toutes les communautés haïtiennes de foi catholique.
La communauté haïtienne de la Paroisse Ste Brigitte a épousé la spiritualité des Missionnaires Montfortains depuis l’arrivée du Père Wismick Jean Charles SMM en l’année 1997. Depuis lors, la communauté Haïtienne de Ste Brigitte a toujours eu un prêtre Haitien des Missionnaires Montfortains comme leader spirituel. Le Père Nesly Jean Jacques SMM est le 5e prêtre des Missionnaires Montfortains qui accompagne la communauté haïtienne de Ste Brigitte. Le dynamique Père Nesly Jean Jacques SMM continue à faire tout ce qui dépend de lui pour faire avancer la communauté haïtienne de la paroisse Ste Brigitte dans la bonne direction. Il était l’un des grands architectes de la visite épiscopale de son confrère des Missionnaires Montfortains Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM à la Paroisse Ste Brigitte le dimanche 6 octobre 2024.
Rappelons que l’évêque Wismick Jean Charles SMM, PHD avait reçu l’invitation du curé de la Paroisse, le Révérend Père John Sureau pour venir célébrer sa première Messe d’action de grâce comme évêque à la paroisse Ste Brigitte. En cette occasion l’église de Ste Brigitte était pleine à craquer. Le Père Nesly Jean Jacques SMM, vicaire de cette paroisse et leader spirituel de la communauté haïtienne de la paroisse Ste Brigitte, a prononcé les mots de bienvenue pour accueillir l’évêque Wismick Jean Charles SMM . La grande chorale haïtienne de la paroisse Ste Brigitte a animé la célébration eucharistique.
Son Excellence Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM , dans son homélie, a parlé de son expérience à la paroisse Ste Brigitte comme jeune prêtre. Il continua pour exprimer sa profonde reconnaissance au Père John, le Curé de la paroisse, et à son frère de la congrégation des Missionnaires Monfortains, le Père Nesly Jean Jacques SMM . Il a parlé de la formation destinée aux. nouveaux évêques du monde entier qui eut lieu au Vatican à laquelle il venait de participer. Dans leur audience avec ces évêques nouvellement nommés, le Saint Père, les a, entre autres, invités à être toujours proches des pauvres, des hommes de communion et de service pour l’église et pour
le peuple de Dieu. Monseigneur Wismick a évoqué dans son homélie les 3 qualités de l’évêque pour être un bon berger dans la vigne du Seigneur : la communion, proximité avec Dieu et le service. Il ajouta qu’il avait, en quelque sorte,
appris tout cela dans sa première mission comme jeune prêtre à la paroisse Ste Brigitte et il est très reconnaissant envers la paroisse Ste Brigitte qui l’a enseigné ces bonnes qualités. Il a été très ovationné à la fin de son homélie.
Comme je l’ai mentionné au début, la grande chorale haïtienne, l’une des grandes chorales de la pastorale haïtienne du diocèse de Rockville Centre, a bien performé à cette célébration eucharistique. Le Père John Sureau, le curé de la paroisse a remercié Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM à la fin de cette Messe et tous ceux et celles qui ont contribué à la réussite de cette belle célébration eucharistique. En outre, j’ai la chance d’avoir un court entretien au téléphone avec Mme Judith Torchon, la coordonnatrice du Groupe des Associées des Missionnaires Montfortains du diocèse de Rockville Centre. Elle a remplacé dans ce ministère la regrettée Sœur Yolette Salnave, l’ancienne directrice de la grande chorale haïtienne de la paroisse Ste Brigitte et ancienne coordonnatrice des Associées des Missionnaires Montfortains qui est retournée à la maison du Père le 12 janvier 2021. Nous savons combien la regrettée Sœur Yolette Salnave aurait été contente de participer à la consécration épiscopale et à la première messe de Monseigneur Wismick comme évêque. Que son âme repose en paix !
Mme Judith m’a fait savoir que le Groupe des Associées des Missionnaires Montfortains a environ 200 membres et ce groupe a été fondé en 1999 par le Père Wismick Jean Charles SMM au cours de son 1e ministère à la paroisse Ste Brigitte. Le Groupe des Associées des Missionnaires Montfortains a 2 activités par année : la célébration de la fête de Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Monfort le 28 avril et une journée de retraite le premier samedi du mois de septembre. Mme Judith continua pour me dire que l’élévation du Père Wismick à l’épiscopat a pris le Groupe des Associées des Missionnaires Montfortains par surprise. Mais elle savait que Monseigneur Wismick a toutes les qualités pour être un bon évêque. Elle insista pour dire que le Groupe des Associées des Missionnaires Montfortains va continuer à prier pour le Père fondateur Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM pour le plein succès de son épiscopat. Elle m’a parlé aussi des problèmes et des défis du Groupe après le COVID.
Le Révérend Père Jean Didereau Duger, SMM, recteur du Sanctuaire Notre Dame de Marillais en France et ancien vicaire du Père Wismick Jean Charles à la paroisse Saint Louis Roi de France de l’archidiocèse de Port-au Prince était parmi les concélébrants de la Messe d’action de grâce de Son Excellence Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM à la paroisse Ste Brigitte. J’ai profité de la rédaction de ce texte pour lui demander de nous parler de son expérience avec ce grand frère de la congrégation des Missionnaires Montfortains Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM . Il m’a fait savoir qu’après son ordination diaconale, il a été envoyé à la paroisse Saint Louis Roi de France de Turgeau. C’est dans cette même paroisse qu’il a été nommé comme vicaire. C’est là qu’il a passé 2 ans et demi avec le Père Wismick Jean Charles SMM , Curé de cette paroisse à l’époque . En résumé, il a fait une très bonne expérience avec le Père Wismick SMM à la paroisse St Louis Roi de France. C’est lui qui lui a appris le « métier » de prêtre. Il ajouta que c’est un grand frère qui l’a accompagné. Ils avaient de très bonnes relations et une bonne collaboration. Il a bénéficié du sens de la planification et d’organisation de Mgr Wismick. Ça l’a vraiment aidé dans son expérience à l’échelle internationale. Il se rappelle une de ses paroles qu’il trouve célèbre : « Celui qui ne planifie pas ses affaires, planifie son échec ». Le Père Duger continua pour me dire que Mgr Wismick savait le corriger quand il faut. C’était pour lui un accompagnateur et jusqu’à présent ils ont de très bonnes relations.
C’est toujours un immense plaisir de se revoir.
L’expérience du Père Duger avec Mgr Wismick restera gravée dans sa mémoire et l’accompagne durant tout son ministère. Il ne peut que remercier Mgr Wismick SMM pour ce qu’il est pour lui et pour la congrégation ! Il est une fierté pour lui. Il apprécie sa méthode et sa façon de faire. Ses homélies sont claires et succinctes ! Il est attirant et attractif, il apprécie et accueille les gens. Devenu évêque ce n’est pas une faveur, il sera à la hauteur de cette tâche. Le Père Duger prie pour que le Seigneur accorde à Mgr Wismick SMM toutes les grâces dont il a besoin pour accomplir cette mission. Que la Vierge Marie lui soit toujours en aide et l’accompagne tout au long de son ministère !
Mme Anne Hodeau, de nationalité française, une paroissienne de longue date à la paroisse Ste Brigitte et une bonne amie de Monseigneur Wismick, était aussi à la Messe d’action de grâce et à la réception organisée en l’honneur de Monseigneur Wismick. J’ai saisi l’occasion pour lui demander de me parler de son expérience avec Monseigneur Wismick. Elle m’a fait savoir qu’elle a connu le Père Wismick à la paroisse Ste Brigitte et depuis lors elle a toujours eu de très bonnes relations avec lui. Selon elle , Monseigneur Wismick SMM est un homme de Dieu très sympathique, très pieux, et nous avons sympathisé. Elle continua pour me dire que Nous avions de longues conversations une ou deux fois par semaine, si bien que Fr.Wismick a attrapé mon accent francais! Il était toujours le bienvenu dans notre maison et il a fait la connaissance de certain membres de ma famille.
Puis il est reparti en Haiti après avoir été nommé Directeur de l’Ecole Notre-Dame. J’ai continue à aider la Communauté Haitienne dans ses levées de fonds “fundraising” (récolte de pennies, diners, etc..). Avec mon amie Yolette Salnave de regrettée mémoire , nous nous sommes portées volontaires pour conduire et livrer des ordinateurs pour l’école dans le port de Miami. Ce fut un voyage pénible (24 heures de conduite) plein de surprises et de prières (c’était la première fois que nous conduisions un petit camion et nous avons affronté une tempête sur l’autoroute..)
Fr. Wismick est revenu à Westbury puis est parti pour Rome pour continuer sa formation et occuper la prestigieuse position de Vicaire Générale des Missionnaires Montfortains et puis le choix du Saint Père Francois qui l’a nommé évêque Haiti le 31 Mai 2024. Je suis très heureuse et fière de lui. Il a beaucoup travaillé et étudier pour y arriver et sa bonté et sa foi l’aideront dans son ministère.
Cette messe s’est terminée par une gentille réception en l’honneur de Monseigneur Jean Charles SMM. Nous voulons remercier le Seigneur qui a appelé son fils le Père Wismick Jean Charles SMM , ce prêtre-éducateur né, pour devenir le berger de ses brebis. Nous demandons au Seigneur de lui accorder une santé robuste, de la sagesse et du discernement dans l’exercice de son ministère comme évêque. Un merci spécial aux pères haïtiens de la Congrégation des Missionnaires Montfortains qui ont accompagné le peuple de Dieu de la Paroisse Ste Brigitte et à l’infatigable Père Nesly Jean Jacques SMM , le leader spirituel de la Communauté Haitienne de la paroisse de Sainte Brigitte qui continue à faire comme ses prédécesseurs de la congrégation des Missionnaires Montfortains à bien représenté la communauté Haitienne au sein de cette grande et merveilleuse paroisse du diocèse de Rockville Centre , . L’un de mes rêves c’est de voir l’un des prêtres haïtiens de la pastorale haïtienne du diocèse de Rockville Centre élever au rang de l’épiscopat pour le Diocèse de Rockville Centre.
Je n’ai pas l’intention canoniser Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM à travers ce texte . Mais je crois qu’il est important pour nos lectrices et pour nos lecteurs de connaitre l’itinéraire spirituel et intellectuel de ce fils d’Haiti , ce serviteur de Dieu connu pour sa grande humilité et son esprit aigu d’unité et son constant effort de mettre Dieu toujours au centre de toutes ses actions quotidiennes en essayant de bien comprendre et de mettre en pratique l’image proposé de Saint Augustin sur l’église » : «Ce que l’âme est au corps humain, l’Esprit Saint l’est au corps du Christ, qui est l’Église». L’Esprit Saint ne se contente pas d’ordonner d’être unis, mais est lui-même le «lien de l’unité».
Son Excellence Monseigneur Wismick Jean Charles SMM , un grand merci d’avoir accepté de répondre à l’appel de Dieu comme votre mère Manman Marie , la mère de notre église et notre divine mère par excellence ! The Episcopal visit of His Excellency The Most Wismick Jean Charles SMM, PHD
to the Parish of Ste Brigitte in Westbury.
The Episcopal visit of His Excellency The Most Wismick Jean Charles SMM, PHD auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince to the Parish of Ste Brigitte in Westbury on Sunday October 6th, the day of the resurrection of the Lord and the eve of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary to preside at the English mass at 11:45 am was a moment of great joy and big blessing for the Haitian Catholic Community of Long Island and the other faith communities of this parish. Several members of different Haitian communities of Catholic faith of the Diocese of Rockville Centre were present at this thanksgiving mass to thank the Lord with His Excellency The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM for all his blessings in the life of this great builder of faith and for the Haitian Catholic Community of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Yes for the former Parishioners of Father Wismick at the parish of Ste Brigitd, other Haitian communities of Catholic Faith of the diocese of Rockville Centre this first mass of Bishop Jean Charles SMM was a historic moment and filled with emotion.
This mass of action of action of Grace of his Excellency The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM, PHD was a moment for him to thank the Lord as the first Haitian Priest of the Montfort Missionaries who exercised his ministry at the parish of St Brigid catholic Church of Westbury 2 years after his priestly ordination and also to express his deep gratitude to the former Pastors, to the current Pastor Father John Sureau and to the communities of faith of St Brigid catholic Church in Westbury. Albert Schweitzer (Artist, Doctor, Musician, Philosopher, Scientist, Theologian (1875 – 1965) wrote: ” Gratitude is the secret of life. The main thing is to thank for everything. He who has learned this knows what it means to live. He has penetrated the deep mystery of life. ” On the other hand, we cannot ignore certain people or people who have a short memory and who prove through their actions ” Gratitude ages very quickly ” but Bishop Wismick has learned this phrase from William Shakespeare (Artist, Writer and Poet (1564-1616) Gratitude is a noble and worthy salary for generous souls. ”
You can imagine, at that time, as a young priest, the heavy responsibility and the great challenge of Father Wismick Jean Charles SMM, as the first Haitian priest of the Missionnaires Montfortains, to exercise his ministry at the parish of Ste Brigitte while At the same time, he completed his Master’s degree in Psychology at the prestigious Jésuite University Fordham in the State of New York.. Of course like any foreign student he experienced difficulties but with the grace of the Lord and his solid academic formation and his great discipline and his great passion for education he managed to adapt very quickly to the university of Ford’Ham and to his ministry at the parish of St Brigid catholic Church. His ministry flourished a lot at the parish of St Brigid, the church of St Brigid was always full for its Eucharistic celebration in Creole for the Haitian Community.
. He is known as a born preacher, everyone was always very happy to hear his homilies. At the beginning he spent 3 years in this parish and immediately after obtaining his master’s degree at Ford’Ham University the Provincial Superior of the Montfort Fathers called him for a new ministry in Haiti. He returned in 2006 to the diocese of Rockville Centre at the parish of St Ann in Brentwood for a 2nd ministry as a priest in the United States. His ministry at the parish of Ste Ann in Brentwood coincided with the 25th Anniversary of the Haitian Community in this parish and in the diocese of Rockville Centre. Several members of other faith communities of the Haitian Community of the Diocese of Rockville Centre went almost every Sunday to the parish of St Ann to participate in the mass in Creole and to listen to the homily of the Priest- educator Wismick Jean Charles SMM After 3 years at the parish of St Ann, in 2009 he returned again to his first parish St Brigid while he was completing his doctorate in Psychology at FordHam University.. During these 2 ministries at the parish St Brigid and in the other parishes of the Diocese of Rockville Centre where the Haitian Catholic community of Long Island has a mass in its language and its culture he was always very loved and very respected for his spirituality, his discipline, his gift of human relations, his preaching his great love for the church and his great proximity to the people of God of all the Haitian communities of Catholic faith. The Haitian Community of the Parish of St. Brigid has embraced the spirituality of the Montfort Missionaries since the arrival of Father Wismick in the year 1997, since then the Haitian Community of St Brigid catholic Church has always had a priest of the Montfort Missionaries as Spiritual Leader. So Father Nesly Jean Jacques SMM is the 5th priest of the Montfort Missionaries who accompanies the Haitian Community of St. Brigid. The dynamic Father Nesly Jean Jacques SMM continues to do everything in his power to move the Haitian Community of the parish of St Brigid in the right direction and he was one of the great architects of the episcopal visit of his brother of the Montfort Missionaries The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM to St Brigid catholic Church on October 6, 2024.
Bishop Wismick Jean Charles SMM received the invitation from the Pastor of St Brigid catholic Church, Reverend Father John Sureau to come and celebrate his first Mass of Grace as bishop at St Brigid catholic Church this Sunday, October 6 where the church of Ste Brigitte was packed to capacity. Father Nesly Jean Jacques SMM, vicar of this parish and spiritual leader of the Haitian Community of St Brigid catholic Church, delivered the words of welcome to welcome Bishop Wismick. The great Haitian choir of the parish of Saint Brigitte performed at this Eucharistic celebration. His Excellency The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM in his homily spoke of his experience at the parish of St Brigid catholic Church as a young priest, he continued to express his deep gratitude to Father John the parish priest of this parish and to his brother of the congregation of the Montfort Missionaries Father Nesly Jean Jacques SMM, the vicar of this parish. He spoke about the training for new bishops from around the world that took place at the Vatican in which he had just participated. In their audience with these newly appointed bishops, the Holy Father, among other things, invited them to always be close to the poor, men of communion and service for the Church and for the people of God. Bishop Wismick spoke in his homily of the 3 qualities of the bishop to be a good shepherd in the vineyard of the Lord: communion, closeness to God and service. He added that he had, in a way, learned all this in his first mission as a young priest at the parish of St. Bridget and he is very grateful to the parish of St. Bridget which taught him these good qualities. He received a great ovation at the end of his homily.. As I mentioned at the beginning The great Haitian choir which is one of the great Choirs of the Haitian pastoral of the diocese of Rockville Centre performed well at this Eucharistic celebration. Father John Sureau the pastor of this parish thanked Monsignor Wismick at the end of this mass and all those .and all those who contributed to the success of this Eucharistic celebration. I am fortunate to have a short telephone interview with Mrs. Judith Torchon, the Coordinator of the Montfort Missionaries Associates group of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. She replaced in this ministry the late Sister Yolette Salnave, the former director of the great Haitian Choir of the parish of St Brigid and former Coordinator of the Montfort Missionaries Associates who returned at the Father’s house on January 12, 2021, we know how happy the late Sister Yolette Salnave would be to participate in the Episcopal consecration and the first mass of Father Wismick as bishop. In short, Sister Judith informed me that the group of Associates of the Montfort Missionaries has approximately 200 members and this group was founded in 1999 by Father Wismick who became bishop during his first ministry at the parish of St Brigid catholic Church. The Group of Associates of the Montfort Missionaries has 2 activities per year The Celebration of the feast of Saint Montfort on April 28 and a day of retreat on the first Saturday of the month of September. She continued to tell me that the elevation of Father Wismick SMM to the rank of the Episcopate took the group of Associates of the Montfort Missionaries by surprise. But she knew that Bishop Wismick has all the qualities to be a good bishop or a good Shepherd . She insisted that the Montfort Missionaries Associates Group will pray for the founding Father Bishop Wismick, for the full success of his Episcopate. She also told me about the problems and challenges of the Group after COVID 19
Reverend Father Jean Didereau SMM Duger, rector of the Notre Dame de Marillais Sanctuary in France and former vicar of Father Wismick Jean Charles at the parish of Saint Louis Roi de France in the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince was among the co-celebrants of the mass of action of Grace of His Excellency The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles at the parish of St Brigid, I took advantage of the writing of this piece on His Excellency The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM, PHD to ask him to tell us about his experience with his Brother of the congregation of the Montfort Missionaries he let me know After his diaconal ordination, he was sent to the parish of Saint Louis Roi de France in Turgeau. It was in this same parish that he was appointed as vicar.
It was there that he spent 2 and a half years with Father Wismick as vicar. In summary, he had a very good experience with Bishop Wismick at the parish of St Louis Roi de France.
He was the one who taught him the profession of priest. He added that he was accompanied by a big brother. We had very good relations and good collaboration!
He benefited from Bishop Wismick’s sense of planning and organization. It really helped him in his experience on an international scale. He remembers one of his words that he finds famous: << He who does not plan his affairs, plans his failure >>.
He continued to tell me that Bishop Wismick knew how to correct him when necessary. He was a guide and a good adviser for him and until now we have very good relations.
It is always a great pleasure to see each other again!
His experience with Bishop Wismick will remain engraved and accompanies him throughout his ministry.
He can only thank Bishop Wismick for what he is for him and for the congregation! It is a source of pride for all of us.
For him he is a big brother!
He appreciates his method and his way of doing things. His homilies are clear and succinct! He is attractive and appealing, he appreciates and welcomes people.
Becoming a bishop is not a favor, he deserves it and he is up to this task. He prays that the Lord grants him all the graces he needs to accomplish this mission. May the Virgin Mary always help him and accompany him throughout his ministry
Mrs. Anne Hodeau of French nationality, a long-time parishioner at the parish of St Brigid and a good friend of Bishop Wismick was also at the Thanksgiving Mass and the reception organized in Honor of Bishop Wismick. I took the opportunity to ask her to tell me about her experience with Bishop Wismick, she told me that she met Father Wismick at the parish of St Brigid and since then she has always had very good relations with Father Wismick who become bishop. According to her, Bishop Wismick is a very friendly man of God, very pious, and we got along. We had long conversations once or twice a week, so much so that Fr. Wismick caught my French accent! He was always welcome in our house and he got to know some members of my family. Then he returned to Haiti after being appointed Director of the Notre-Dame School. I continued to help the Haitian Community with its fundraisers (collection of pennies, dinners, etc.). With my friend Yolette Salnave of late memory, we volunteered to drive and deliver computers for the school in the port of Miami. It was a difficult trip (24 hours of driving) full of surprises and prayers (it was the first time we drove a small truck and we faced a storm on the highway..)
Fr. Wismick returned to Westbury and then left for Rome to continue his training and to occupy his prestigious position Vicar General of the Congregation of Montfort Missionaries in Vatican City and immediately after The Holy Father Francis elevated him to the rank of the episcopate by appointing him Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. I am very happy and proud of him. He worked and studied a lot to get there and his goodness and faith will help him in his ministry.
This mass ended with a nice reception in honor of The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM. We want to thank the Lord who called his son Father Wismick Jean Charles SMM, this born priest-educator, to become the shepherd of his sheep. We ask the Lord to grant him robust health, wisdom and discernment in the exercise of his ministry as bishop. A special thank you to the Haitian fathers of the Congregation of the Montfort Missionaries who accompanied the people of God of Haitian Community at the Parish of St. Brigid and to the tireless Father Nesly Jean Jacques SMM, the spiritual leader of the Haitian Community of the parish of St. Brigid who continues to follow the footsteps of his predecessors of the congregation of the Montfort Missionaries in this great and wonderful parish of the diocese of Rockville Centre. One of my dreams is to see one of the Haitian priests of the Haitian pastoral ministry of the Diocese of Rockville Centre elevated to the rank of episcopate for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
I do not intend to canonize The Most Reverend Wismick Jean Charles SMM through this piece. But I believe that it is important for our readers to know the spiritual and intellectual journey of this great son of Haiti, this servant of God known for his great humility and his keen spirit of unity and his constant effort to always put God at the center of all his daily actions by trying to understand and put into practice the image proposed by Saint Augustine on the church: “What the soul is to the human body, the Holy Spirit is to the body of Christ, which is the Church.” The Holy Spirit does not just order to be united, but is himself the “bond of unity.”
